Our Story

Sector is a specialist Brazilian coffee brokerage firm whose roots go back over 40 years, offering unrivalled expertise in green coffee trading, roasting, distribuition and outlet branding.

Founded in 1986 by Ronaldo Mendonça, Sector Commodities grew rapidly into one of Brazil’s largest green coffee brokers, trading over one million bags annually. Soon it was delivering markets for clients in the US, Europe, Japan and Eastern Europe, strengthening the company’s global strategic reach, an advantage that today defines one of its core competences.

In parallel, Ronaldo diversified his activities by launching Brazil’s first “gourmet-style” outlet in Rio de Janeiro, years before the concept became a world-wide phenomenon. The first shop to have a roaster, Café Amadeus was the place to be seen, and soon its special roast was lauded in the US under the brand “Café Mozart”, where it became a fixture in specialty shops, not least Bloomingdale’s in New York, and Ralph Lauren’s VIP suites.
